- Tuukka Time
Not much in boston news this week other than this.
Boston Bruins young goalie is out for the next 4-6 weeks. Tuukka Rask was diagnosed with a lower abdomen/ groin strain by doctors a few days ago. Rask suffered the injury at 9:01 of the second period while making a save against the Islanders. This year Rask is 11-8-3 with a low 2.05 goals against average and a 93% save percentage. Luckily, the Bruins still have Tim Thomas as the starting goalie and he is one of the best in the business.
What this means: Tuukka’s season is pretty much over at this point. The Bruins only have roughly 20 games to go and once the playoffs start Tim Thomas will be in net every game like he was last year on that historic quest for the cup. It also means the Bruins had to sign a goalie off the free agent market. They settled for Marty Turco. He was a solid goaltender in his prime but age has caught up with him recently and now he struggles to be consistent in the net. He went 11-11-3 last year with a sub-par 3.02 GAA. This also means when Tim Thomas rests it will be a tough battle for our guys to score 3 or 4 goals every time. We may slip in the standings which we dont want as well because then we will not have the nice home ice advantage the #2 spot will grant us these playoffs. If we slip and lose the division to ottawa it could mean we would be a 5th or even 6th seed. I am not worried though because last year when we won we were the 6th seed. Just saying it would be nice to play a few game 7′s at home. Its quite a predicament, keeping tim thomas fresh for the playoffs while staying in the number 2 spot in the running. I expect coach Claude Julien to have a little less sleep at night knowing Tim Thomas’ prodigy will not see the ice again this season.
